tour – history: Immerse yourself in the history of Hamburg’s gang neighbourhoods, which once covered the entire old and new city of Hamburg. Historian and initiator of the Museum Stephan takes you on a tour of the district (the last remains of the Gängeviertel!) to the almost forgotten former Hamburg underworld.
tour – nightlife: Between Laeiszhalle and Gänsemarkt once stretched one of Hamburg’s largest red light districts. Dimly lit cellar pubs and large event rooms were lined up close together. The tour leads from the historic Concert House past workers’ pubs to Hamburg’s first private theatre, the beginnings of the swing scene and finally to Hamburg’s rock’n’roll institution. Afterwards we have a beer in the Jupi Bar. Duration about one hour.
tour – neustadt: Between the Schanze, St. Pauli and the Old Town, Hamburg’s New Town is more of a niche existence. An inconspicuous residential district with few tourist highlights and hardly noticed – but wrongly! This tour illuminates the history of the New Town as a centre of political dissidence and Jewish culture, as an amusement and red-light district and as a scene of brute urban development policy in the heart of Hamburg. Duration about two hours.
